If the seeds are sowed in a dish like container, the seedlings germinate within 3-4 days. When the seedlings breed 4-5 leaves at least, the seedlings are planted into the container or pot. We don’t need a vast container cultivating Lettuce.

Planting the Seedlings

Plant the young and fresh seedlings in the afternoon. At the time of planting, the soil of the root should be tightened carefully and softly so that the roots are not hampered or cut off. The newly planted seedlings should be covered with a sack for about 3-4 days. Continue irrigation at every morning and evening and afternoon at the time. Sometime the soil of the root must be loosed for the proper growth of the seedlings.

Uproot the plant if they are affected by trunk rotten or top burnt disease. In case of insects, apply chemical with the permission of an agriculture officer. Never collect the vegetable within 7 days of applying chemical. Sometimes the leaves are affected by agarics. We can get rid of such problem refining the soil and seeds before planting.

You may notice that various kinds of small birds devour the tender leaves and plants soon after the plantation. Most often they uproot the seedlings as well. In such case, we can cover the pot or container by a poly shed or net rounding all the sides. If we use poly for the purpose, we must maintain a standard amount of hole on the shed to move the light and air to and fro.
